All She Wants For Christmas

I am happy to report that I got a few things crossed of my shopping list this weekend, I am a heavy online shopper so that makes it a bit easier. I did head out to the mall and nearly had a panic attack from all the noise, traffic and blaring music in the stores - are there people who enjoy the frenzied holiday shopping, and if so what am I missing?

As you may have guessed the MOST important person on my list is Punky and I thought I would share with you what is on the wish list of a very free-spirited 10 year old. Enjoy!!

Shark Week & I

2 things that don't mix.

Punky loves the ocean, it is were she has always felt at home. She started surfing last summer and she took to it quick and her love of the water only grew - I am convinced she must be part mermaid. You know what else she loves about the ocean - SHARKS. She has always had a fascination with them and nothing makes her happier than Shark Week on Discovery. 

I will just be here chewing off my fingernails - don't worry about me.

Yea and how scary is that picture - eeeek!!

"Punky" - you are an incredible person who has taught me more than I thought possible. You have allowed me to open up my heart, to trust in something outside of myself, and most importantly that the sound of your laughter is enough to fix anything. If I could wrap up the world in a perfect little package and give it to you I would in a heartbeat, however since that isn't possible I will walk beside you on this journey -  supporting your decisions, cheering on your accomplishments, and watching you experience all that life has to offer you.

Oh Yeah That Project.

The other day I was reading my profile info and I remembered how this blog found its humble beginning, my 365 photo project. So I have not exactly been taking a picture everyday but I have been taking a couple a week (mostly) BUT I am committing to you all here and now that I am ready to hit the ground running and I have slowly begun to clear the photos off my trusty iPhone to make room for new pics. There are a few favorites that I have not shared here and I will post them over the next few weeks as well as do a weekly wrap up of my project. This is Punky in her home away from home, the ocean, she has reminded me numerous times that the water is almost warm enough for her to begin surfing again. No surfing in the winter, but it is not winter any longer.

Also I am proud to announce that I finished my list of 11 for March, hooray for me!! I will post my list for April in a few days.

Punky Power Style File.

I was thinking it would be fun to come up with a "style file" inspired by Punky Brewster all grown up. I have been watching old episodes of this show which was my favorite growing up thanks to my recent DVD purchases from Target. Yes they have the shows on DVD for all you Punky fans out there, and the best part is they are only around $5.00. Score! OK so back to my idea of who Punky would be and what she would be wearing today. I think she would know how to have fun with her clothing, she would still rock the things she loved as a kid and most importantly everything would have an element of fun but with a sense of maturity. My picks are: 1. Purple Sequin Dress: Top Shop. 2. Color Wheel Necklace: Yellow Owl Workshop. 3.Denim Vest: Old Navy. 4. Sugar Stacked Rings: Tiffany & Co. 5. Hand Bag: Kate Spade . 6. Twirl Bow Cuff: Kate Spade. 7. Jet Set Coasters: Jonathan Adler. 8. Sequin Heart Headband: Ban.Do. 9. Butterfly Bootie: Christian Louboutin.

And just in case you need a reminder of who Punky was back then, here you go...

Now the question is what other TV show character from my past can inspire a style board, Kelly Kapowski anyone?!?! Go ahead and revisit an old TV favorite and make a style file of what you think they would wear or have today, it's lots of fun (don't forget to send it my way so I can take a peak)!!

My very own Punky.

I am fairly certain that I have my very own Punky Brewster, you remember her right?!?! She was the spunky, headstrong, fearless girl, who dressed in  her own mismatched colorful and unique way on that show from the 80's. I wanted to be her friend when I was little, dress like her, be brave and funny like her.

Well I got the next best thing I get to be Punky's mom!! My Punky is everything that I thought was so cool about the original Punky, including the unique fashion, and when I say unique I mean UNIQUE.

As she has grown and become her own person with her own ideas of what looks good together I have had to bite my tongue and allow her to express herself, and it is hard with a capital H. Often times she comes down the stairs in her latest colorful and mismatched outfit and I want so badly to send her back upstairs to change and maybe remove some of the 50 rainbow rubber bands she likes to wear as bracelets, but I don't because I get it, I grew up in the 90's you know the decade that brought us 3 pairs of socks, LA Gear high tops, and acid wash jeans. Plus she wears a uniform all day so she should be allowed to express herself creatively while at home.

This brings us to the shoes that she is wearing in the photo and just received, my lovely cousin, Mrs. B wanted to get Punky something that she could make herself and so they sat down and Punky was able to design her very own converse. There were many versions, and I admit I cringed at many of them and I may have tried to persuade her a tiny bit, but in the end she ended up with a pair of shoes that are uniquely her. They are multi cheetah print, with a purple tongue, and a second lady bug tongue, they have red and black X's and O's lining the inside and her name stitched in green along the back. She loves them and truth be told I can't help but smile when I see her wearing them with such pride.

And just in case you want to channel your own inner Punky and design your own converse, remember don't be afraid to use a lot of color.
